Freefly Rob Heron is one of the most senior parachutists on the 2016 Grand Prix slate and one of the most positive. He is highly skilled in multiple parachuting and freefall disciplines and travels the world doing high-energy coaching and freefly seminars – and flying his wingsuit from cliffs whenever he can. “After thirteen years of skydiving,” he says, “I started parachuting from the cliffs, which quickly turned into flying big wings from cliffs, too. I like flying wingsuits because, after learning to control my body skydiving, I can now extend those features and enter a whole new domain of flight.” Although he has not raced before, and he lost training time after being injured in a wingsuit collision earlier this year, Rob thinks he has a fighting chance for a podium finish because he says “my longevity in parachuting helps me understand and apply the theory into practice.” He looks forward to the Grand Prix because it will give him a chance to share experiences and play with other pilots in a unique place. “Different pilots have different knowledge and practices,” he explains, “and that diversity helps me to be better informed about general trends and which ideas are pushing the progress.”
