The 2013 WWL China Grand Prix race was held once again on Tianmenshan near Zhangjiajie City in Hunan province. The course included upgraded timing systems and camera coverage, and augmented reality technology that allowed the athletes to practice on a virtual race course between rounds.
The 2013 Grand Prix preliminary round was held Saturday, 12 October. The 16 pilots raced hard to qualify for the Final 8, and when the two rounds of preliminary flying were over, the Final 8 roster had some familiar names from 2012 – and several new names.
The 2013 Grand Prix final round was held Sunday, 13 October. Newcomer Vincent Descols took the early lead with a 23:75 first flight, just 1/100th of a second faster than 2012 third-place finisher James Boole. Descols had no chance to improve on his second flight, however; he was disqualified when he flew inside the course turn marker. Jhonathan Florez and Noah Bahnson then charged past him, with Florez winning the world championship with a second run that was more than one second faster than his dismal first run that had put him in seventh place. The remaining five in order of finish were Boole, 2012 winner Julian Boulle, 2012 runner-up Espen Fadnes, Jon Devore, and Tony Uragallo.
